On January 29, the first passengers on flight KL672 were able to board biometrically at gate 57 for their flight to the Netherlands. This is a first in Canada, and a first for a transcontinental flight to the European Union!

Biometrics is a new boarding process that uses facial recognition technology. Unlike the usual process of presenting one’s passport to an agent, travellers simply present their face to a screen and place their passport against the electronic gate.

This historic boarding is part of a multi-week pilot project at YUL, designed to test the concept of the Digital Travel Credential (DTC), a new standard issued by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).
