From September 15 to 19, Canadian Airports Safety Week took place across the country! To mark the occasion, ADM Aéroports de Montréal’s SMS team launched a series of initiatives aimed at strengthening our safety culture and raising awareness among all employees about the importance of maintaining safe work practices to protect both colleagues and passengers.

Brunch-and-learn, driving competitions, and the FOD Walk — it goes without saying that this week was packed with engaging activities!

Missed the action? Here’s a recap of the highlights from this exceptional week.

A brief review of activities

Driving Competition

To kick off the week, ground handlers were invited to take part in a driving competition held in the remote parking lot S1. Two challenges on the program: A skills test focused on pushback operations and an agility course with tug and dollies.

Over thirty participants rose to the challenge, showcasing their dexterity in hopes of winning one of the prizes offered by the SMS team. Meet the winners!

  • Challenge A: Ahmed Bourab – Air Canada; Thomas Abasi – Samsic; Jonathan Edwards – Delta
  • Challenge B: Carl Leduc – Air Canada; Ugurlu Furkan – Air Canada; Julien Dahiroc – Delta

Brunch-and-learn

On Wednesday morning, Philippe Juteau, Operations Specialist at NAV CANADA, and Vincent Cormier, Traffic Regulator at SGAT, hosted a brunch-and-learn event. The topic: incursions — what they are and how to prevent them effectively.

Around thirty participants joined the discussion. As a bonus, three lucky attendees had the opportunity to visit NAV CANADA’s control tower, a unique experience offering a new perspective on airport operations.

The Unmissable FOD Walk

Although the YUL FOD Walk was cancelled due to rain, the week ended on a high note with the YMX FOD Walk on Friday, September 26. Around twenty participants walked the movement area with vigilance, helping to clear the FOD that had accumulated over the summer.

During the lunch hour, YMX colleagues also viewed the incursion talk that had been presented at YUL earlier in the week.

To wrap up the week in style, a grand prize was featured as part of the airside traffic quiz. A random draw among participants determined the winner of a 60-minute Discovery Package at AviaSim, offering the chance to pilot a professional flight simulator. Congratulations to our colleague Julien Brossard, Supervisor of Energy Services Maintenance and Operations, who won this well-deserved prize!

As we emphasized throughout the week, the success of our SMS relies on collaboration. Safety must be deeply rooted in our corporate culture. As ambassadors of this culture, you play an important role: integrate safety into every action, report any safety concerns promptly, and remain vigilant. Safety is everyone’s responsibility, every single day.

Thank you all for your participation!
