This Airport Safety Week, let’s take a moment to stop and consider our environment and the (often rapid!) changes that can alter it. In an airport context, things can change very quickly, and we need to be constantly vigilant and agile to maintain a good level of safety.
To give you some food for thought, we suggest the following:
Come to work prepared. We can’t say it often enough: people are at the heart of aviation safety. Fatigue, stress and hunger are your main enemies in the field, reducing your ability to perform, sometimes unwittingly. Take care of yourself to better take care of others!
Never assume or take anything for granted. When in doubt, check your instructions or procedures and/or ask a colleague or your supervisor. Not sure you’ve understood? Ask questions – it’s not a sign of incompetence!
Respect the ramp traffic rules. They’re there to protect you. Know how to decode your environment and anticipate your actions accordingly. Taking shortcuts can endanger yourself and others. Be cautious!
Live in the moment and stay focused. There’s always time to check your social networks when you get home!
The next FOD Walk at YUL
Are you committed to aviation safety? Do you dream of walking the apron (again, or for the first time)? Do you enjoy socializing while working for a good cause? And would you like to get involved in making YUL a safer environment?
If you answered “yes” to at least one of these questions, don’t delay: sign up for the next FOD Walk at YUL on October 20, from 10 a.m. to noon.
