National Airport Safety Week took place from September 23 to 27, 2024. ADM Aéroports de Montréal’s SMS team deployed numerous initiatives to raise awareness among the airport community of the best practices to adopt airside to ensure high air safety performance.
Quizzes, a luncheon, a vehicle cleaning area, and a FOD Walk—needless to say, it was a particularly busy week!
A brief review of activities
Luncheon
A breakfast meeting with our AMS tower colleagues and our partners Air Canada, Air Transat, TSAS, Menzies and Samsic took place on Tuesday morning. The topic? The challenges of aircraft pushbacks, with a view to reinforcing safety on our aprons. An excellent opportunity for our partners to exchange views.
FODmidable cleaning
A temporary self-service facility was made available to airside teams on Wednesday morning to clean vehicles of any FOD that might accidentally find its way onto the apron.
The FOD Walk
On Friday September 27, a hundred ADM employees and members of the airport community once again took to the piers to clean up the airport environment of FOD accumulated over the summer.
And finally, to motivate you, a grand prize: a $500 gift voucher to travel with the airline of your choice. The higher your participation in the week’s activities, the better your chances of winning the grand prize. We’d like to congratulate our airport security colleague Il Kim on winning the grand prize!
As we’ve said all week – and we can’t stress it enough – a well-functioning SMS requires a collaborative approach. Safety must be anchored in the corporate culture: every employee becomes an ambassador for this culture and applies it to everything they do. This same culture also encourages every employee to openly report safety issues, so that they can be assessed quickly and effectively.
