A construction site is an environment in its own right and often constitutes a traffic barrier. Such work must be properly signposted to ensure the safety of all road users and the workers carrying out the work.

The YUL site will be undergoing major work in the coming years. ADM Aéroports de Montréal would like to remind you of a few good signage practices to ensure everyone’s safety while maintaining site efficiency and mobility.

Why is signage so important?

Ensuring road safety

The safety of workers and road users is paramount. Roadworks signage helps prevent accidents by informing drivers of temporary changes on the road and enabling them to adapt their driving accordingly. This includes detours, lane closures, and work zones, thus reducing the risk of collisions. Signage also helps to protect workers, more specifically, by making them visible and informing drivers of their presence.

Facilitating traffic flow

Clear signage helps to keep traffic flowing, despite construction work and the resulting impacts. It guides drivers to alternative routes and slow zones, minimizing traffic jams and delays.

Identify or serve as a reminder of applicable regulations

Signage can also remind drivers of specific rules to be followed in work zones, such as reduced speed limits and overtaking bans. This helps maintain order and safety on the road.

Pointing out hazards

Signs alert drivers to work-related hazards, such as heavy equipment, workers on the road, and uneven road surfaces. This enables drivers to take extra precautions.
